If you happen to be a watercolor painter, what is it about the medium of watercolor that appeals to you and why? What led you to get involved with watercolor and who has influenced you the most (living or dead)?

Actually I'm brand new to watercolors, I have always drawn with graphite and charcoal and played around with pastels but I've watched several watercolorists with amazement. As a kid I was always drawn to vivid bright colors and even more amazed with bright transparent colors.

I’ve never had enough confidence to pick up a brush and try it for myself until two days ago. I finally bought everything I needed and started my first painting, it's very small (8X8) and not all that great. I decided if I liked it as much as I thought I would then I'd get serious and learn all I could and that’s how I found this site.

Well........it only took me about an hour into the painting to realize it's exactly what I want to do; this is the medium for me. I love that there are so many ways to apply it and how two or three colors can run into each other and create the most beautiful blends, it's just amazing.

Yep....I'm hooked and with many many years of practice maybe I'll be able to do what Mark Stewart dose.
