What is your favorite Mark Stewart Watercolor Still Life?

For my choice, I'm going with "Dog Nap". I like the Mark Stewart interior room still lifes. Along with "Crazy Quilt" and "Fresh Eylet Cases," "Dog Nap" an interior room with a quilt covered bed. Is this all from the same house I don't know, but they all have the wooden floorboards and walls of a very old house. Each painting is saturated with contrasts of bright highlights and dark shadows. Perhaps it's the rich textures of the dark shadows that intrigues me. Achieving such a richness with watercolor is suprising and draws me in. But of the three still life interior watercolors, "Dog Nap" wins out because of the title character resting at the foot of the bed.

Anyone else? What is your favorite Mark Stewart Still Life Watercolor?

I love Sunday Flowers, Dog Nap, and Fresh Eyelet Cases. However, my favorite is a tie between Pecan Quartet and Caladium Garden. My father is nearing the end of his years. Last weekend, however, I caught some photos of him under the pecan tree with my six-year-old son, picking up pecans and laughing. Knowing how precious these moments are, PQ is a nice reminder. Caladium Garden, though, brings back more memories than I can speak of here. I spent countless summers with my grandmother tending her flowers, especially the elephant ears and caladiums.

A very hard question indeed;

While all of his work is very appealing to me I have to pick "Garden Swing". I was raised in the country and this painting brings to memory the warmth of the day, the sounds of the birds in the tree, I can even hear the creak of the swing and the sound the ropes make when you sit in it, I also get a feeling of a soft warm breeze which brings the smells of the garden especially the dirt.

I can see that his talent gives him the capability of creating a painting that causes one to gaze and bring these things to the forefront of our minds. Wow...
