I spent most of my time during this step adding washes to build the shape of the horse's body.  The back and the right side have a strong blue component which had to blend into warmer tones moving toward the front of the horse.  After this was done, the painting began to take on a more completed appearance.  I held off working on the hands, arms, rope and horse's head because they were all painting elements that physically touched each other and would require some finesse.  For those aspects of the painting to read properly, the tones and values needed to be developed carefully - otherwise the arm might look like an extension of the the horse's head.
