| My habit toward the end of a painting is to spend more time looking and less time painting. I’ll move the picture to different spots in the studio to catch the image in different lights and settings. This process will give me a fresh look at something that I might otherwise never see. In this instance, I placed a mat around the painting and was immediately struck by the thought that a foreground element was needed, so I added a floor shadow in the lower right hand corner. I also added a door knocker and continued to fine-tune the texture and overall feel of the work with drybrush
