Occasionally during the previous stages I applied some light washes to the brick wall below the window and to the left of the window. In this stage I began applying small light strokes of watercolor to create individual bricks. I primarily used a mixture of Cerulean Blue with Cadmium Red and Burnt Umber. I didn't want to create a heavy birck wall impression, so I applied these colors as very thin washes in random fashion to create just a hint of brick. I frequently added some opaque white to the mix of colors and was able to achieve a variety of light tones ranging from pinks to tans to gray blues. I also used a dry brush technique to create crisp little shadows across the surface of the wall and around the edge of the window.
