Once the wall shadows were thoroughly dry, I began applying a dark watercolor mixture of Sap Green, Winsor Green, and Brown Madder, to create the dark foliage elements in the shadows. While some of the dark watercolor paint was still wet, I used a small knife to scratch out some foliage highlights, particularly under the window. It was during this stage that I also splattered some of the dark watercolor paint into the dark green areas which added to the organic feel of those passages. I also continued working on the cat's fur, applying Sepia, Burnt Umber, and Raw Umber in a dry brush fashion, and I made further refinements in the shadows around the window sill.
